ItemThe Effect of Alexithymia on Posttraumatic Stress Disorder Presentation and Treatment ResponsePutica, Andrea ( 2022)Fear extinction learning is the dominant mechanism underlying the development of trauma-focused treatments for PTSD. Fear extinction learning fails to account for all PTSD presentations and treatment variance. As a result, treatment non-response among frontline treatments continues to be approximately 50%. This thesis will explore the role of emotional agency, i.e., alexithymia, on PTSD presentations, fear memory processing, and treatment outcomes, working towards the development of a parsimonious account of PTSD where the self is viewed as an object and an agent to inform precision treatments.
