This study aimed to retrospectively analyse data collected at greyhound race tracks across Victoria to determine the prevalence and type of injuries sustained by greyhounds during racing, and to identify possible factors that may increase or decrease the likelihood of a greyhound sustaining a serious tarsal injury during a race. This research was aimed at establishing baseline information on the rates of injury amongst Victorian racing greyhounds with the view of enabling ongoing monitoring of industry strategies aimed at making racing safer for all greyhounds.
