    Asterisk Kolam
    Meade, J (Monash University, 2020)
In 2018, Monash University Museum of Art and ARM Architecture commissioned seven artists to each design a 5.5m ‘art column’ for the colonnade around the new Monash Chancellery building, which opened in 2020 at its Clayton campus. ‘Asterisk Kolam’ is located at the entrance to the building. Its design is a response to the architect’s brief, the concept of its location & site, as well as the sight line to the building. The work juxtaposes the typographic symbol of the asterisk (in 3D Arial style) with the neoclassical Tuscan Column design. The asterisk element is informed by the South Indian culture of Kolam pavement design. Other artists included are: Angela Brennan, Linda Marrinon, Gunybi Ganambarr, Vipoo Srivilasa, Renee So and Kathy Temin.
