    Captain Olsen had his ship berthed in Sydney Harbour for less than 26 hours yet this resulted in court proceedings spanning fourteen-and-a-half-years. On the fortieth anniversary of the incident that gave rise to those proceedings, this article fills in the factual background to the incident that led to two of the leading cases in the 20th Century law of negligence.
