    These selected papers are submitted for examination for the degree of Doctor of Agricultural Science bearing in mind the need to demonstrate that they should constitute - (i) "Substantial published contributions to science applied to some branch of agriculture"; (ii) "Evidence of research and ability satisfactory to the examiners". To this end the papers have been grouped in the following manner.
