This eprint provides information on the design and use of this equipment for teaching and research. This manual, which is one of a series on locally made equipment for teaching and research in agricultural engineering, describes a load vehicle for testing animals and small tractors on firm surfaces. It is based on a towed vehicle with a disc brake which is driven from ground wheels. The frictional force generated between the brake pads and the disc is used to determine the draught. The vehicle is specified by construction drawings and an associated parts list; sources of supply are provided for the major parts to be purchased. The method of calibration and use of the vehicle is described.A dynamometer, suitable for testing small tractors on soft and firm soils (based on the same loading system), is described in Manual No 2.2.en_US
