Abstract
This eprint provides information on the design and use of this equipment for teaching and research.
This manual, which is one of a series on locally made equipment for teaching and research in agricultural engineering, describes a dynamometer for testing small tractors on soft and firm surface conditions. The dynamometer is stationary and the tractor operates via a rope and drum against the action of the disc brake in a 'pull-out' mode. The frictional force generated between the brake pads and the disc is used to determine the draught. The dynamometer is specified by construction drawings and an associated parts list; sources of supply are provided for the major parts to be purchased. The method of calibration and use of the dynamometer are described.A vehicle for testing small tractors and animals on firm surfaces (and based on the same loading system) is described in Manual No 2.1.
