    Abstract
This manual is one of the series on locally made equipment for teaching and research in agricultural engineering and associated technologies. It is intended to provide the educational and technical background for the study of such equipment in practical work and the reporting of it by students. The objectives of practical research work and testing in agricultural engineering are presented, together with a discussion of the various types of experimental arrangement that are used for complete machines and test rigs. The types of performance test that are frequently undertaken and the significance of the experimental conditions are considered. The main features of practical work reports are presented in Appendix 1 in a form that may handed out and kept for reference by students.
