Umberumberka Reservoir under construction, north-west of Broken Hill, New South Wales. It was built between 1912 and 1915 to supply water to Silverton and Broken Hill. Broken Hill South was one of the largest of the Broken Hill lead-zinc mines and a major member of the Collins House group of companies. During the nineteen thirties it diversified into various other mining activities including a wide scale programme of mineral exploration. The mine itself closed in 1972 with the bulk of its operations being taken over by CRA, North Broken Hill and WMC. Inscription: "30.07.12" is written in ink on the photograph.
