Description
Abstract
The Rakow Grant for Glass Research (2019) has enabled us to build on a previous study of objects with glass beads from the western Pacific (Australia and Papua New Guinea) housed in one museum, and to expand our research to examine a significant number of beaded objects and trade bead sample cards at 14 museums worldwide. This research provides a foundation for comparing the distribution of bead types within the region and mapping their origins and distribution as part of global networks of colonial trade from the mid-19th century onward.
